Tomas Kral

Friday, March 20th, 2009

I have just discovered Tomas Kral, via a design blog that I read.  He comes up with some really interesting ideas that are simple, but practical.  Here are two of my favourites:

Now your other half can peel the spuds for you without missing their favourite TV show.  The lap counter is inspired.

Why on earth has no one thought of this before?  A coathanger that can be turned two ways to hang different things!  Brilliant.

A visitor….

A mini version of Twinkle appeared whilst I was eating my lunch!  We decided to call it Sprinkle.

So JT got a bit fed up with my work being all over the dining room floor….

At last! iPhone OS 3.0 will contain what it should!

I love my iPhone, but it has a few frustrations:

-  No peer to peer bluetooth file transfer

-  No MMS

-  No copy and paste facility

These are just a few examples of basic functionality that should exist, but don’t.  Fear not!  OS 3.0 is on the way: click to read

…And there are too many of them in the world!

Picasso – legend.

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

When we think of Picasso, something like this usually springs to mind:

Funky, crazy, cubist.  What fewer people know of Picasso, is his earlier work, of which I am a fan.  He painted beautiful portraits:

Ok so she has a slightly peculiar ear, but look at the backround on this – beautiful.  I also love the very subtle tones.  Here is another:

Again, very subtle tones – there isn’t one particular bit of the picture that demands attention.

Another thing I like about Picasso, is that he came out with some quality quotes in his time.  Here are a few that I like:

“Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die left undone”

“Each second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that will never be again. And what do we teach our children? We teach them that two and two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we also teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must work, we must all work, to make the world worthy of its children.”

“Every child is an artist.  The trouble is, how to remain an artist when we grow up”

“If only we could pull out our brains and just use our eyes”

“Everything you can imagine is real”

Anyone got a spud gun?

Today I am really ill….  I have caught JT’s fluey lurgy and my IBS has decided to join in full pelt, just for kicks.  The little *insert expletive* nextdoor has decided to give us his daily bout of ‘IBIZA, 3am on loads of speed’ at 150 decibels.  It is making me feel so much worse as it thunders through the walls with hectic bass beats (sounds like someone banging a metal bin against the floor) and some pikey shouting “EVERYBODY IN DA HOUSSSSEEEE!!!!!”  Arrggghhhh!

Death by laughter….

This is what happens when Van Halen perform JUMP live and the synth is accidentally transposed a little….  The guitarist, of course, plays it in the normal key and the show must go on.  When it gets to the solo it is sheer brilliance!!  Enjoy…. If you are musical, CRINGE.
