Some cool toadstools…

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

(Is that how you spell it?!) Found these on the way to uni the other day… A lady thought I was mad as I bent down to take a photo of her feet as she got into her car!! Still, here they are, at first I was a bit concerned to find such psychedellic mushrooms en route to an art college but hopefully they are just toadstools!

Twinkle is sitting on my knee doing that thing that cats always do – spinning round, sitting down, standing up and turnng round again, sitting down…etc so I apologise for any typos!!

…Where IS Patsy Poppins??

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Patsy Poppins, office tart was last spotted reclining in the cloisters of Barcelona cathedral. Since then we have not heard from her and fear that she may have been arrested by a Barcelonian policeman for wearing a pink mini skirt in a cathedral. Patsy, if you are reading this, do get in touch with Melody or myself, all is forgiven.

Cute-ness!

Look what I found on my desk shelf! Wondered why my desk was purring… :-)

4-32 beta launch!

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

As a twig contribution to the branch of ‘online mission’ we are launching a site that starts with the church – possibly as much in need of mission as the world a lot of the time! The aim of this site is to promote unity within the church.

Based on Acts 4:32 “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.”, this site is a portal for sharing, selling, giving, receiving etc. It is in its very early developmental stages so far, but I share it here in order to gain your feedback. Please have a look through and offer comments, suggestions, content etc!

The sign-up and submission features are not present yet, as it is going to be a big job, but I am launching it in beta to see if it is a good idea, as if I spent hours developing it and it was of no use then it would be a terrible waste!

The site is free to use, with the facility to donate via PayPal if users feel so inclined. However, we did not want to charge for everyday use as it is not a money-making venture. Let me know what you think, it is just an idea in the pipeline (in very developmental stages!)… Get involved if you like!

Ok so I can’t yet get my youtube to synchronise with my blog, so here is a link where you can see the infamous clip “A gaseous moment” – a classic moment from PINK HOUSE history…. click

A stressful day

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Today is an “I want a cuddle” day… After working all weekend, I got up early this morning, put my rucksack n my back, put my laptop on my back, picked up my A1 portfolio, my handbag and my carefully sculpted cheese objects and shuffled to uni with the laptop banging against my legs all the way and my shoulders breaking. It was deadline day…. Dum dum DUMMMMMMMM! Three projects to present and two PDP assignments to hand in.

I arrived slightly late, due to the weight of my load but this was ok as nothing had started. When we arrived, we had to pin all of our work up on the boards (PRESSURE!!) My heart sank as amazing piece after amazing piece found its way onto those ill-fated burgandy notice boards. We then had to present our three projects to the rest of the group which was even more horrid.

It is on days like this that the everyday problem of my gut not working properly is heavily accentuated and shortly before the presentation I had to leave the room and sit outside for a while shaking and in agony. A few University security guards looked at me strangely, shook their heads and raised their eyebrows, before walking back inside.

I managed to get back in and say my bit of the first cheese presentation without fainting (which I felt like I was going to do at any moment!!) I think that the tutor liked the cheese project, so that is a huge relief.

Next was the colour project and, still feeling really ill I had to present my final piece. There was not much response and the tutor said that “it sort of works doesn’t it?” which crushed me a little, but at least it wasn’t appalling.

The third was the typography project to which he said “crux was a difficult word wasn’t it?” Great. I think we have all passed, but I feel a little disheartened as although I have been working round the clock, I don’t feel that the end products are very good. The moment of truth will be on Thursday when we have individual tutorials to see how we are doing. I am not looking forward to this!!

When I get days of intense illness, my body eventually collapses with exhaustion, so I bussed home and walked with all my stuff in a bit of a daze back to the flat. It was great to find the cheery face of Mark Constance half way down the high street which made me feel a lot brighter!

I am now going to curl up with a blanket on the sofa and have a bit of a sleep I think until JT gets home so I can cuddle him!! Might even investigate the new Sainsbury’s later….? Just realised we have no food!!

Hmmmm…..

Devastation…

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

This is one of the pieces of work that I stayed up until 1am doing last night… A hand-drawn typographic representation of the antithesis of the word “CRUX” (?!!!!) It now hangs sadly on the radiator with various other bits of work, as the kittens in a crazy 5 minutes this morning, spilt a glass of water on it!! :****( I nearly cried. There is not supposed to be a red splodge on it but who knows, it may catch on?!

In my lack of awake-ness last night I must have stupidly left my glass of water on the coffee table by my work… Silly!

Eggs, beans and crumpets!

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

…A lovely collection of short stories by tbe mighty PG Wodehouse – one of JT’s favourite authors! Yet this is not why I find myself, today, musing upon such ramblings of old.

I must start with a cracking quote before I spill the beans on the eggs and crumpets!! Found this hiding under the sleeve of a design book: “By logic and reason we die hourly, by imagination we live” – JB Yeates – most definitely muse-licious…

Anyway, eggs. I have been set yet another project today (please do pray for me, I have about 5 deadlines for Monday next week and one for the following Monday…Very tired…) This project is really quite fun. We have to build a rocket to make an egg ‘fly’ 15 feet and hit a target without breaking. The egg has to remain visible and must be held but not wrapped. I feel a strange sense of de-ja-vu (have I spelt that right?) – read the post about the Hive weekend away!

My idea so far is to chop the bottom off a Coke bottle and place the egg in the top end, so that it is ‘held, but surrounded by a plastic wall. Being see-through, the egg can still be ‘seen’. We would then put some water in the bottle to cushion the blow and set up a pulley system. It doesn’t say that the rocket device cannot be touching the target at first, it just has to get there of its own accord (start the pulley higher than the target and let it travel slowly).

We then have to create an advertising and launch campaign for the rocket (we are making a stupid film and flyerising the University with 1950′s ‘primative rocket’ posters inviting students to the launch!) It is an exercise in group work apparently, but I need to find someone who owns some chickens in order to complete a comedy part of the film :-) Any tips??

You are probably wondering where the crumpets come in… They are actually completely unrelated, but as I sit here in the flat, I am gradually being intoxicated by a foul burning smell. All I did was cook a pizza, but the other day I may have had a bit of a culinary inconsistency.

I had the bright idea of baking a cake for our weekend away. Not just any old cake but a chocolate saccher torte – mmmmmm…. Now I am usually quite good at cakes (trying to preserve my dignity here) but the other day when JT said “we need some plain flour”, I managed to lodge this bit of information into my skull when thinking about cake and somehow proceeded to take a trip to Londis to buy some plain flour to put IN said cake. As it was cooking, some of the cake dribbled through the base of the pan and burnt onto the bottom of the oven – hence the smell.

A look of utter confusion and dismay crossed my face as I removed my ‘chocolate crumpet’ from the oven and JT, who usually is very lovely on such occasions (like the time when I curdled buttercream filling and it looked like baby vomit!! He said, heroically, “I’m sure it’ll be very nice?!” and proceeded to twitch nervously) took one look at the cake and said “err..ummmm..ohhhh dear?” I knew that this was a good time to throw the offending article in the bin and look a bit sad. JT is so much better at cooking than me, he’s really clever!! I am trying so hard to learn though. Well I guess that’s all for now/
